Here's the info on final exams (students have already known this for a week now) -

CALCULUS - 5th period is on Fri, May 14th
1st period is on Tues, May 18th

they have review sheet of what is on it...............just some basic integrals!!

ALG 3 Y - their final is across two days

3rd period Mon, May 17th Trig material
2nd period Tues, May 18th Logs, solving systems, inequalities, matrices

They have a review sheet with list of problems from their book that is like their final...

MATH 1 - final exam is 6th period on Wed, May 19th

we will be reviewing on these last few days for it....they have been doing great (at least the ones I ask feel great!!!) about the EOCT. I know they will be fine with it....

Math 1 - County EOCT

The county EOCT for Math 1 is to be given this Wed and Thur (5/12 and 5/13)...they are done during the class period (6th) and the students take them in the media center. The reason they have had these EOY's in the classroom the past several days is to give them plenty of review for this EOCT. They are all smart kids who can do well on this mandated exam.

They will need to report to the media center for 6th period on Wed and Thur. They cannot have their phones or any other electronic device physically with them during the exam.

If they still need any further practice, they can go on the website listed below and take a practice one for the state of Georgia.....

Welcome to May!!!! The end is in sight............here's what is going on -

CALCULUS - their last quiz is on Tues, May 4th...they have a take home test to be given them on Wed (5/5) and they need to return it by Fri, May 7th. We are wrapping up integrals and various methods within integration.

ALG 3 Y - We are on the last week of trig....they have another quiz on the unti circle (just identifying coordinates) on Tues, May 4th and the last trig test (on trig proofs) will be on Fri, May 7th.

MATH 1 - we are in the process of review for the County EOC Exam and taking some End of Year tests in order to help the students with their grades and to prepare for large amount of questions on the County EOC. More info about these were posted last week and more again this coming week. We really are trying to give them great preparation for the EOCT as well as aiding their overall grade.

For this week-

CALCULUS - we are continuing on the methods of integration. They have their first test on integrals on Tues, April 27th.....integrals will continue through the remaining weeks of the semester. Standards include #27 - #30 applications of the integral, fundamental theorem of Calculus, average value of a function, etc.

ALG 3 Y - we are heavily into trig topics right now and their second test on trig material is on Thur, April 29th. This test will include law of cosines, law of sines, solving trig equations.....Standards include #32 - #38 and include solving any level of triangle, applications of triangles, trig ratios, etc.

MATH 1 - our last quiz on Math 1 will be on Tues, April 27th and it is over solving rational equations, quadratic equations, and radical equations. We will then begin to review for the EOC as well as review exams which will take place next week.....more details coming soon on this!

FRIDAY, April 30th is Awards Day/Yearbook Day/Spring Fling here at Lassiter....not much goign on with classes that day....FYI....

CALCULUS - we are working on the basics of integration...definite and indefinite integrals, applications of them, initial value problems.....first test on this is not until Tues, April 27th.

ALG 3 Y - they have their first trig test on Wed, 4/21 and a quiz over the unit circle on Fri, April 23rd. We will be moving on to more trig material including solving any type of triangle and law of sines and law of cosines.

MATH 1 - they have a test on Tues, April 20th over the graphs of the mian functions that we have been talking about....quadratic, square root, cubic, absolute value, rational functions. Then we have some misc. topics to finish out the remainder of the month with.

Welcome back from Spring Break.....here's where we are -

CALCULUS - we're just starting now on integrals, which will take us the rest of the way for the semester.

ALG 3 - we are starting TRIG, which will be for the next four weeks or so. They need to stay on top of Trig and ask for help, which I am sure they all need from time to time, given the difficulty of trig. Unit circle quiz on Fri, 4/23 and first trig test on Wed, 4/21.

MATH 1 - finishing up various sections of Unit 5....they will have a quiz on graphing on Thur, 4/15 and their next exam will be on Tues, 4/20.

What is going on this week-

CALCULUS - We are starting our overall last unit dealing with the derivative. We will be looking at related rates of change this week along with max/min problems and derivatives with emphasis on economic applications. Standards for this unit include -
Standard 13 applications to related rates of change
Standard 22 solving optimization problems

ALG 3 Y - They are taking their midterm exam on Tues, March 16th (study guide provided a week ago).....then we are moving into Chapter 5, which is topics involving the logarithm. Standards for this involve standards 27 - 31: graphing, solving, applying log functions and also exponential functions.

MATH 1 - We are looking at translations of functions and graphing them.....Standard MM1A1 is implemented here - Students will explore and interpret the characteristics of functions, using graphs, tables, and simple algebraic techniques.

CALCULUS - am working on both critical and inflection points and how graphs are designed by them. Also will aim for discussion of max/min related rate problems. Next test will be on Thur, March 11th.

ALG 3 Y - we are winding up chapter 3, which discussed zeros/roots of any function. Test is on Wed, March 3rd. After that, we look at conic sections and related material.

MATH 1 - we are well into the unit 4 material which is full realm of statistics and probability. It is a great unit for students to be involved with. They will need their calculators during all of this time.

Week of Feb. 22nd -

CACLULUS - we are working on applications of derivatives and will continue to do so for the next several weeks. Right now, we are looking at the critical points of a function. Their next test will be on Thur, Feb. 25th.

ALG 3 Y - We have started up a new chapter on polynomial functions and characteristics of them. This does take quite a lot of practice and continued work by them in order to master it.

MATH 1 - we are startign up a new unit overall which involves probability, counting, and other statistical areas of study. Their next quiz will be on Fri, Feb. 26th and it will cover counting and permutations and combinations.

Here's what is going on....

CALCULUS - We are working on the chain rule for derivatives and then will move into max and min values for functions. We have a quiz over chain rule applications on Wed, Feb. 10th.

ALG 3 Y - We are going through analysis of graphs of functions and various features of graphs including the main parent graphs. Test on this material won't be until later next week.

MATH 1 - We are going through features of the distance and midpoint formulas. Also will be reviewing through the many utilities of quadrilaterals. There will be a test over this material but it will not be until next Wed, Feb. 17th. This is due strictly to my being absent for the state prelims of the 5A swim and dive championship. I want to be there when they are testing and thusly, need to make arrangements for doing so.

Here's what is happening............

CALC - They had their first exam on Tues, 2/2 and will be dealing with the overall topic of derivatives for the next several weeks.

ALG 3 Y - we have a test on Wed (2/3) over the final amounts of review material. This would be material on slope and complex numbers. We then move into official Alg 3 material starting with functions and composition of functions.

MATH 1 - we have a test on Thur, 2/4 over the geometry topics that we have discussed since we started the semester. This would include theorems on proving congruence of triangles, features of triangles such as bisectors, altitudes, etc and also parallelograms and other polygonal shapes. Afterwards we move into coordinate geometry for the next 2 -3 weeks.

LEARNING GOAL: The school goal focuses on critical thinking, targeting reading comprehension and written expression. As part of Lassiter High School's School Improvement Plan (SIP) and the Superintendent's Advanced Placement (AP) Certification initiatives, all students will participate in timed writing activities (based on content area reading passages) that will be scored using the College Board's Holistic Scoring Method for the new SAT.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Algebra III is a college-prep course which focuses on realistic problem-solving in concrete situations. This class is not recommended for students who intend to pursue careers which require extensive mathematical or scientific background. Algebraic and geometric topics are approached using appropriate numerical, analytical, and graphical methods as well as using appropriate technology. Course topics include: equations and their graphs; functions and their graphs; polynomial functions; rational functions; conics; systems of equations and inequalities; matrices; logarithms; trigonometry; and other topics as time permits.

ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UP POLICY:...................................................................................................
A student who is present and actively participates is more likely to be successful; however, if a student is absent, he/she has one day for each day of excused absence to make up the work. (For example, a student absent 2 days would have 2 days to make-up the work.) Students are responsible for asking their teachers for the make-up work. A student with an unexcused absence may ask for assignments and may choose to complete them in order to keep up with the class; however, the teacher is under no obligation to grade the work. All tests should be made up through Math Department make up sessions or by individual arrangement with the instructor. Welcome! I am excited about having you in my class and I anticipate having a great semester. Like most things, what you learn in this class is a product of what you put in it.

Course Description: This semester in Math IY we will cover the following units in this order:
Complete Unit 3: Geometry Gallery
Unit 6: Coordinate Geometry
Unit 4: Chance of Winning
Unit 5: Algebra in Context

A) Textbook:
McDougal Littell, Mathematics I (2008).
If the book is lost or destroyed, you are responsible for replacing it. The cost is $69.48.

B) Materials needed:
You will need a three-ring binder with dividers (for general information, notes, classwork/homework, quizzes, and tests), notebook paper, graph paper, pencils, and a calculator (you must have at least a scientific calculator).

C) Class Expectations:
*You should be seated and ready to begin class when the bell rings and remain in your
seat until the bell rings to end class.
*There is no eating or drinking in the classroom, except for water.
*You are expected to be respectful of your peers and teacher at all times.
*Do not talk when your teacher or one of your classmates is talking.
*Along with your textbook, you are expected to bring all supplies to class each day.
*All assignments should be completed using a PENCIL.
**It is your responsibility to be prepared for class each day.

D) Tests:
The Math Department has testing days on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We will have many tests throughout the semester.

E) Quizzes:
Quizzes can be given on any day of the week and will be given throughout the semester.

F) Homework:
Homework will be given often. You must do your homework in order to practice the mathematics being taught. It is your responsibility to check your homework for accuracy and ask questions when necessary.

G) End-of-Course Test:
The EOCT will be a cumulative test that covers all material from Math IY (Units 1–6).

H) Final Exam:
The final exam will be a multiple-choice cumulative test. Details will be discussed towards the end
of the semester.

I) Attendance and Make-up Policy:
You are expected to attend class daily and on time. It is important that you are in class on time in order to receive the proper instruction and to be a part of the discussions and questions dealing with the concepts being presented. If you are present and actively participate in class, you are more likely to be successful; however, if you are absent, you have one day for each day of excused absence plus one more day to make up the work. (For example, if you are absent 2 days, you would have 3 days to make up the work.). If you have an unexcused absence you may choose to complete the assignments in order to keep up with the class; however, I am under no obligation to grade the work. If you are absent on the review day before a test/quiz and return on the day of the test/quiz you will be expected to take the test/quiz as scheduled. Grades for any missed assessments will automatically be recorded as a zero until the work is made up. It is your responsibility to ensure that all work is made up. You must show me the work, I will not ask for it. Anyone who is in ISS when a test/quiz is given will be expected to take the test/quiz in ISS. You will be expected to turn in all assignments as soon as you return from ISS. If you miss class due to a field trip, make sure that you ask me for the assignments BEFORE you go on the field trip so that you will be prepared for class on the day you return.

J) Tardy Policy:
To avoid being counted tardy, you must be seated and ready for class when the bell rings.

*See your student handbook for detailed information on absences (pages 13-15) and tardies
(pages 15-16).

K) Hall Passes:
Please come to class prepared so that you do not have to leave the room and miss instruction time.
If you must leave the room for any reason, make sure you carry a pass with you.

L) Detention and Make-up Sessions:
The Math Department holds sessions before school on Tuesdays in room 214 from 7:15 until 8:10 and after school on Thursdays in room 214 from 3:30 until 4:25. Be prompt. There is no extended time. If you are serving a detention, you must sign in to receive credit.

M) Extra Help:
Extra help is available with me on most mornings (except Wed). After Feb. 13th, almost all mornings and afternoons are good for any additonal help sessions.

N) Academic Integrity and Cheating:
Students are expected to uphold the highest standards. Cheating is considered a serious matter. The parent(s) of a student who has been involved in cheating will be notified and the student will receive a grade of zero for the assignment, and a grade of U in conduct.
For this course, cheating is defined as, but not limited to the following:

§ Copying anyone’s answers to any assignment.
§ Copying homework answers out of the back of the book.
§ Looking onto another student’s paper during a test or quiz.
§ Having available any study notes or other test aids during a test or quiz without the
teacher’s permission.
§ Collaborating on assignments when independent work is expected.
§ Students displaying a cell phone during a test or quiz.
§ Talking or communicating in any manner during a test or quiz (even if you have finished your test or quiz).

Grades will be averaged as follows:

STATS - they are reviewing for their last regular exam which is on Thur, Dec. 10th. They will have their final exam review time after that......finals are as follows

5th period Wed morning, Dec. 16th
1st period Fri morning, Dec. 18th

Inf ALG 2 Y - working on our last chapter which is Matrices. They need to have their calculator with them for the remaining days.....test on matrices will be next Mon, Dec. 14th.

MATH 1 - working on their final regular material which is dealing now with geometry....their test on this is Thur, Dec. 10th.....their final exam will be on Wed morning, Dec. 16th.

STATS - class is wrapping up on hypothesis testing and their last regular test will be on Thur, Dec. 10th. They do have a take home quiz that will be given to them on Wed, Dec. 2nd.

INF ALG 2 Y - we have entered into the final two chapters that the course has...trig this week and then matrices to finish up during next week. Their test on the trig material will be on Mon, Dec. 7th.

MATH 1 - They have been given review material for a retest on Unit 2, which will be on Thur, Dec. 3rd. Review times for it have been posted on the board in class. They have now been into the last part of 1st semester Math 1......distance, midpoint formulas, and various relevant topics within the realm of geometry. Their last regular test will be on Thur, Dec. 10th.

Here's what is going on for the last week before Thanksgiving break -

STATS - Working on more hypothesis tests......they will not have another exam until after we return. There will be work daily on the different tests that they will see.

INF ALG 2 - We have just finished up another somewhat difficult chapter and move into chapter 12, which is the topic of log's...we will test on this next Friday, Nov. 20th.

MATH 1 - we have been working on rational expressions and the different operations....also will be looking at radical equations as well. We are aiming on taking an exam on this next Thursday, Nov. 19th.

STATS - they have jumped fully into hypothesis testing and will be on this general topic the remainder of the semester. Their next test will be on Thur, Nov. 12th.

INF ALG 2 Y - we are testing on chapters 9 and 10 on Wed, Nov. 4th and then, they will be diving into chapter 11, roots of polynomial expressions...which is a difficult subject. I will be offering extra help if they need it all NEXT WEEK in the mornings, as we progress into this tough material.

MATH 1 - they took a test on Monday, Nov. 2nd and their next test as well as quiz is not for a good ways off. We are now moving into rational expressions, simplifying, multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting them. It is tough and as we go into it, I will be around all mornings next week (week of 11/9) if they need extra help on it.

INF ALG 2 - they have a test on chapter 8 (quadratics) on Wed, Oct 28th. Then we move on to graphing the quadratics.

Sorry for me being absent-minded....just forget to update you all on what is going on....here it is -

STATS - They have a test at the end of this week and then, we are moving into the general idea of hypothesis testing.....they have 10 survey questions to turn into me this Friday, Oct. 16th. The questions are ones that they are making up.....

INF ALG 2 - We are working on Chap 7 which is all about radicals and imaginary numbers. They will test on this chapter next Tues, Oct. 20th. Their midterm exam is next Wed, Oct. 21st. They have a review set for this particular exam.

MATH 1 - We are currently working on polynomials and all of their aspects...this current unit takes up the next several weeks.......

The following is a study skills discussion that just might be helpful for the MATH 1 students:

Distribute Study Time

Spaced practice promotes better retention than massed practice.
Study a little each day or several times a week.
Don’t cram all your study time into one long blitz.
This approach requires planning and discipline but you will reap the rewards (higher grades).
Reading the textbook chapters:
Rather than trying to read a whole chapter in a single sitting, read just one section per study session.

Listen actively in class

Remove distractions – friends, cell phones, I-Pods, etc.
Listen for the main idea and sub ideas in lectures. Write them down.
Ask questions during and after class.

Overlearn

Overlearning improves retention.
The more often students read a chapter and the fewer classes they miss, the better their exams scores. (Woehr & Cavell, 1993).
Don’t overestimate how much you know. Really learning something requires more than momentarily understanding it.
Highlight your notes
Test yourself
Online quizzes, section reviews
Review what you think you know
Reread the chapter
Explain it to someone else

n We remember:

n Countless experiments reveal that people learn and remember material best when they put it in their own words, rehearse it and then review and rehearse it again.
n Summarize the material for a friend or lecture about it to an imaginary audience.

Focus on Big Ideas

n Periodically, step back and see the big picture.
n Think about or write down how what you are learning fits together.
n Relating information to others things you already know will help you to remember it.

Be a Smart Test-taker

n Multiple choice test
n Don’t confuse yourself by trying to imagine how each choice might be the right one.
n Try to answer the question as if it were a fill-in-the-blank.
n Read the choices and find the one that matches your “fill-in-the-blank” answer.
n Mark through the answers that you know aren’t correct.
n Underline what the question is asking.
n If you have no idea: guess.
n Note the questions you aren’t sure of and go back to them if time permits. Sometimes another question will help you with the answer.
n Essay test
n Before answering the multiple choice, read the essay question carefully noting exactly what is being asked.
n Make a list points you would like to make.
n Answer the multiple choice questions keeping the essay question in mind.
n Reread the question, rethink your answer, and start writing.
n When you finish, proofread your work to eliminate spelling and grammatical errors that make you look less competent than you are.

Here's what is going on this week and next week already......

STATS - We have started the next general topic of confidence intervals and will be on this topic for the next several weeks.....Their project of keeping stats of a baseball or football game is due NEXT Friday, 10/9.... Next test is tentatively set for Tues, Oct. 13th.

INF ALG 2 - We have begun one of the toughest chapters in the course, Chapter 6 will deals with rational expressions. Their test on this unit will be next Thursday, Oct. 8th.

MATH 1 - We have started to look at polynomials and various operations that we can do with them including multiplying, adding, subtracting, and eventually, dividing them.

WHat's going on this week -

STATS - They have a test on probability on Tues (9/22) and then, we start to look at confidence intervals and they will be working on their sampling questions as well.

INF ALG 2 - They have a test on factoring (Chap 5) on Tues, 9/22...we then move into one of the toughest chapters in the course, chapter 6 (Rational Expressions).

MATH 1 - They have a test on Tues over conditionals, sequences, avg rate of change and misc graphing problems. We then move into the next Unit of Math 1.

STATS - We are plugging away with standard normal distribution and general probability rules and problems. They will be working on their survey questions at the end of the week!!

INF ALG 2 Y - Have just started chap 5 which is Polynomial Factoring and Multiplication. Will be on this chapter for several days and their test will not be until the early part of next week.

MATH 1 - Have started up with sequences and their applications. Will spend a decent amount this week on it as well as reviewing the previous two weeks of material.

To all parents of my Math 1 students -

They are yet struggling with all of this new material, I know, and I am attempting to take my time to show them (and I did so working together with them in class last week, that is why you didn't see much homework last week). As mentioned at the Open House, it is all a whole new world for them....this Math 1. Well, we have had a bit of trouble the last few days, for many of them would rather just talk and visit than pay attention and concentrate on the subject at hand.

We are in the 5th week and I truly want them to do well but the constant chatter or being off-task does not help. While it is frustrating, I do know that several are working away at trying to make heads or tails out of it. I will simply now start assigning detentions for those always off task. They will have one week to serve the detention....they will have their choice of serving it on Tues morning, starting at 7:25 AM or Thur afternoon, starting at 3:30 pm. That will be it. Detention is for 30 minutes......non-negotiable.

I will be available for help on Wed afternoon, Thur morning and Fri morning of this week. If they have trouble, please don't hesitate. I sincerely want them to do well and get the most out of it. I will post week by week when I am available......

STATISTICS - we are working on linear regression and various items related to sets of data and standardized distributions. They have a quiz on regression this Fri, Aug. 28th.

INF ALG 2 Y - just wrapped up chapter 2 today (Mon) and will be working on Chap 3 which is functions and slope....linear equations....test won't be until Tues, Sept. 1st.

MATH 1 - reviewing material on domain, range, function notation.....graphs of functions.....
TEST is on THUR, Aug. 27th!!!!!

STATS - we are working on various displays of statistical data and the basics of the mean, median, mode, and other measures of central tendency. First quiz is this Thur, Aug 20th....

INF ALG 2 Y - Their first test is Mon, 8/17 and then we will be working all week on chapter 2, solving more equations and inequalities.....The second test will be on Mon, 8/24.

MATH 1 - The students are getting used to all the notation that goes with the concept of a function and will be working on domain, range, function expressions, and graphs for the functions.

Welcome! I am excited about having you in my class and I anticipate having a great semester. Like most things, what you learn in this class is a product of what you put in it.

Course Description: Math IY is a year long course. Your Math IY grade will be calculated as follows: Fall Semester grade 42.5%, Spring Semester grade 42.5%, End-of-Course Test (given Spring Semester only) 15%.

Unit 2: Algebra Investigations Unit 5: Algebra in Context
Unit 3: Geometry Gallery Unit 6: Coordinate Geometry

A) Textbook:
McDougal Littell, Mathematics I (2008).
If the book is lost or destroyed, you are responsible for replacing it. The cost is $69.48.

B) Materials needed:
You will need a three-ring binder with dividers (for notes, classwork/homework, quizzes, tests), notebook paper, graph paper, pencils, and a calculator (you must have at least a scientific calculator).

C) Class Expectations:
*You should be seated and ready to begin class when the bell rings and remain in your
seat until the bell rings to end class.
*There is no eating or drinking in the classroom, except for water.
*You are expected to be respectful of your peers and teacher at all times.
*Do not talk when your teacher or one of your classmates is talking.
*Along with your textbook, you are expected to bring all supplies to class each day.
*All assignments should be completed using a PENCIL.
*It is your responsibility to be prepared for class each day.

D) Tests:
The Math Department has testing days on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We will have many tests throughout the semester.

E) Quizzes:
Quizzes can be given on any day and will be given throughout the semester.

F) Homework:
Homework will be given often. You must do your homework in order to practice the mathematics being taught. It is your responsibility to check your homework for accuracy and ask questions when necessary.

G) Final Exam:
The final exam will be a multiple-choice cumulative test that covers all material from
the semester.

H) Attendance and Make-up Policy:
You are expected to attend class daily and on time. It is important that you are in class on time in order to receive proper instruction and be a part of the discussions and questions dealing with the concepts being presented. If you are present and actively participate in class, you are more likely to be successful; however, if you are absent, you have one day for each day of excused absence plus one more day to make up the work. (For example, if you are absent 2 days, you would have 3 days to make-up the work.). If you have an unexcused absence you may choose to complete the assignments in order to keep up with the class; however, I am under no obligation to grade the work. If you are absent on the review day before a test/quiz and return on the day of the test/quiz you will be expected to take the test/quiz as scheduled. Grades for any missed assessments will automatically be recorded as a zero until the work is made up. It is your responsibility to ensure that all work is made up. You must show me the work, I will not ask for it. Anyone who is in ISS when a test/quiz is given will be expected to take the test/quiz in ISS. You will be expected to turn in all assignments as soon as you return from ISS. If you miss class due to a field trip, make sure that you ask me for the assignments BEFORE you go on the field trip so that you will be prepared for class on the day you return.

I) Tardy Policy:
To avoid being counted tardy, students must be seated and ready for class when the
bell rings.

*See your student handbook for detailed information on absences (pages 13-15) and tardies
(pages 15-16).

J) Hall Passes:
Please try to come to class prepared so that you do not have to leave the room and miss instruction time. If you must leave the room for any reason, make sure you carry a pass
with you.

K) Detention and Make-up Sessions:
The Math Department holds sessions before school on Tuesdays in room 214 from 7:15 until 8:10 AM and after school on Thursdays in room 214 from 3:30 until 4:25 PM. Be prompt. There is no extended time. All make-up tests and quizzes will be there in a folder under “Accurso.” If you are serving a detention, you must sign in to receive credit.

L) Academic Integrity and Cheating:
Students are expected to uphold the highest standards. Cheating is considered a serious matter. The parent(s) of a student who has been involved in cheating will be notified and the student will receive a grade of zero for the assignment, and a grade of U in conduct. The student will be referred to her/his appropriate administrator.
For this course, cheating is defined as, but not limited to the following:

§ Copying anyone’s answers to any assignment.
§ Copying homework answers out of the back of the book.
§ Looking onto another student’s paper during a test or quiz.
§ Having available any study notes or other test aids during a test or quiz without the
Teacher’s permission.
§ Collaborating on assignments when independent work is expected.
§ Students displaying a cell phone during a test or quiz.
§ Talking or communicating in any manner during a test or quiz (even if you have finished your test or quiz).

M)Grading:
Grades for Fall Semester will be averaged as follows:

Alg 3 B - They have theit test on Matrices tomorrow (tues) and their last quiz this coming Fri, May 8th. The quiz will be over first two sections of Chapter 11 (Sequences/Series)

Calculus - Continuing to work in integrals....last test isn't until next week (Wed, May 13th)

Alg 3 Y - They have their second quiz on the Unit Circle tomorrow (Tues) and their next test, which is on trig proofs, will be on Fri, May 8th.

ALG 3 B Now we are headed into the home stretch......they will be working on Chapter 9, systems of equations for the next several days. Next test won't be until late of NEXT week......

CALCULUS For the remianing weeks, we will be looking at the integral and appilcations of the definite integral. Next test won't be for a couple of weeks.

ALG 3 Y We are now immersed into Trig (chaps 6, 7, and 8). Next test will be on Tues, Apr. 21st.

Here's what is going on as we inch closer to Spring Break-

Alg 3 B They have a test on Mon, 3/30 over Trig Proofs/Identities. They will then have a cumulative test on Tri next Thur, 4/2 and that will conclude trig for the semester. We will pick up with systems of equations after we return (week of 4/13).

CALCULUS - They have their last derivative exam on Mon, 3/30 followed by a midterm exam on Thur, 4/2. We will then dive into integrals for the remainder of the semester.

Alg 3Y They are currently working on Logarithms and will be tested on it next Wed, 4/1. We will then be entering trig for the next several weeks.

Here's what is going on:

Alg 3 B - we have a quiz on the Unit Circle (just the coordinates) on Tues, Mar. 17th....we are starting a new trig segment which includes trig proofs and solving trig equations. It is difficult material and there is extra help sessions every day this week before school EXCEPT Tues, 3/17.

Alg 3 Y - we have a test on Chap 4 on Wed, March 18th and then a midterm over the first half of the term on Mon, March 23rd.

CALCULUS - we are continuing on tghe derivatives half of the semester and just completed another exam on derivatives. The next test will not be for a couple of weeks followed by the midterm exam.

ALG 3 B working on solving triangles (all sides, all angles) given for non-right triangles....will be focusing on these using Law of Sines and Law of Cosines. Next trig exam will be on Thur, 3/12.

ALG 3 Y we are finishing chapter 3 which is dealing with finding all zeros of a function and also testing out factors of a given polynomial function. Test on this will be on Thur, 3/5. Then, we will proceed into chapter 4 and that deals with rational functions and conic section. This will take us roughly 8-10 school days to get through this somewhat difficult material.

CALCULUS We are blazing away on derivatives and uses of them. Their next test will be on Mon, March 9th.

Sorry for the delay in posting out blog updates but had the State Swim & Dive meet last week and was just consumed with that......But hey, the Lassiter girls are State Champs again (2nd in a row) and we are excited.....Here we go-

Alg 3 B - we are well into the trig unit and this will consume them for several weeks yet. We are starting on graphing the trig functions and will have our first trig test next Mon, 2/23. Extra help this week Tues - Fri Before school (roughly 7:40 am)

Alg 3 Y - we are working on function transformations and observations of graphs and what all comes from that. Also included in function combinations and inverses of functions. This material is from chapter 2 and the exam for this will be on Fri, 2/20.

CALCULUS - Derivatives are the main unit right now and will be roughly until spring break.....their next quiz will be on the chain rule and applications of the derivative and this quix will be on Tues, 2/24.

Algebra 3 B - we have just started our overall unit on trigonometry and will be on this general topic for the next two months. First quiz won't be until sometime the middle of next week.

CALCULUS - we have begun intro to the general topic of derivatives. Their first test will be on Thur, 2/5.

Algebra 3 Y - we have begun what would be considered as new material and will be looking at functions, domain, range, etc.

EXTRA HELP THIS WEEK - Tues Thur Fri AM

Alg 3 - started work on the last chapter (chap 4) and will be taking a test on part of it next Mon, 12/8. Chapter deals with asymptotes, conics, zeros.

STATS - beginning the final parts of different hypothesis tests. This will include Chi-square,F-test, and some nonparametric tests. Will give a take home quiz on Fri and a test next Tues, 12/9.

INF ALG 2 - now dealing with a chapter on logarithms.....will be working with them all this week and there will be a test on logs next Mon, 12/8.

Here goes:

ALG 3 - kids are taking a test on Thur, 11/20 over chapter 3 and will move on to the last general chapter for this semester and that deals with conic sections. They will have the opportunity for two more test grades following the Thanksgiving break.

STATS - they are taking a test on Thur, 11/20 and will continue to work on different hypothesis tests for the remainder of the semester. They have two more exams after the week break and a handful of quizzes.

INF ALG 2 - They are taking a test on rational and all zeros on Thur, 11/20 and will then move into a unit of logarithms. This next topic and the overall topic of matrices will be the last subjects that they will have for the course.

STATS - test is moved now to Wed, 10/8 (was 10/7). Afterwards, will be starting general topic of confidence intervals. Stats project due this Friday, 10/10.

Here's what is going on this coming week-

ALG 3 - we're working with permutations, combinations, and overall probability. There will be a quiz on this in class on Thur, 10/2. Then, we will move into chapter 2 and kick it off with the topic of slope.

STATS - working with the general concept of simple probability and will continue to do work this week both in the classroom and also, through assignments outside of. There will be a probability exam but will not be until early next week.

INF ALG 2 - finishing up chapter 5 (factoring) and will have that test on Wed, 10/1. Next, we will move in order to chapter 6 and rational expressions/polynomial division.

Here's the latest for all classes:

ALG 3 - They have a quiz set for Thur, 9/18 and a test scheduled for next Tuesday, 9/23. It will be over the last remaining parts of our review material for this course. This would include polynomial inequalities, complex numbers, regression, and other misc. equations to solve.

STATS - They have a quiz set for this Thur, 9/18 and a test that will be next Tuesday, 9/23. It is over the general material that we have been looking at, z values, Prob of a single variable, and general prob. of a random variable.

INF ALG 2 - They have a test this Thursday on systems of equations followed by material that will be considered now "Alg II". This would include polynomial addition and subtraction, multiplication of polynomials, and factoring. Additionally, they will have a cumulative test over the first four chapters and that will be coming up next Tuesday, 9/23.

I'm overdue and sorry for the lack of posting the past week or so....anyway, here's what is going on-

ALG 3 - They had a test this past Monday and are working on some smaller, misc. topics for the remainder of our review portion of the course. They will be continuing to work on this material for this week and all of next week.

STATS - They did quite well on their first test last week and are now looking into the overall concept of random and normal distributions and later on this month, they will look into the general concept of probability itself.

INF ALG 2 - We are in the last of the review chapters for this course (Chap 4) and this remaining topic is systems of equations. They have to do a lot of work for it but they slwoly are remembering what all is there. They will continue to do this for the next several days, including some word problems about this topic and will test on it next Thur (9/18).

I will be gone Thur afternoon (9/11) and Fri (9/12) but will be back next week!

Welcome to the 2008/2009 edition of The Meeden Zone........I'm Coach Meeden and here is what is happening right now in each of my courses:

ALG 3 A We just completed the first chapter test (over much review material) and will be embarking now on more equation solving and overall algebraic material that is considered as review. They will have their next Quiz on Thur, Aug. 28th.

STATS We are in the process of looking at graphical representations of data as well as looking at regressional patterns and making predictions about items based on the data already presented. They have had one quiz this past week and will have their next one on Wed of this coming week (Aug. 27th)

INF ALG 2 Y We are quickly approaching the second chapter test in this course and that will take place on Tues, Aug. 26th. It is over chapter 2 of the algebra two curriculum and next, we will be reviewing over slope and equations of lines.

Here's the latest.....

ALG 3 Y They have two more tests left, one on Fri, 5/9 and one next Wed, 5/14. Their final exam is set for next Friday, May 16th. We are working on matrices and it is all calculator driven. THEY NEED TO BE BRINGING THEIRS WITH THEM EVERY DAY!!!

ALG 3 B We are winding up the year with number logic, combinations, probability, sequences. Bunch of number crunching!!!! They have one remaining quiz on Fri, 5/9 and one remaining test next Tues, 5/13. Seniors and juniors know when their repsective final is.....

CALCULUS We are closing out the last week or so with a study of the different methods of integral evaluation. They have just completed a take home test and have one remaining in-class test next Tues, 5/13. Their final exam is on Tues, 5/20.

ALGEBRA 3 BLOCK We are down to the last four weeks......They have a quiz on the unit circle tomorrow (Tues, 4/22) and their first trig test on Thur, 4/24. Makeup times are posted in my room and they need to have all makeups done by Fri, May 2nd!

ALGEBRA 3 B We are working on systems of equations and they have a test on it this Thursday, April 24th.

Again, I'm tardy but had a bit of surgery last week and just fell behind.....Here's the latest-

ALG 3 Y - Testing on Tues (4/1) over chapter 5 (logs). We will then be embarking into trig and will spend the next 4 weeks on the general topic. It's important that your student has their calculator for all of this time.

CALCULUS - Testing on last material with derivatives on Tues (4/1). They will have their midterm on Thur (4/3). Midterm is 10% of grade.

ALG 3 B - Take home portion of midterm has been delivered. Last formal trig test will be done on Thur, 4/3.

ALG 3 Y - They have their next test (chap 4) on Thur, 3/13 and their midterm examination will be held on Thur, 3/20. They need to remember their calculator for all classes, for their next topic is logarithms and is taught via a calculator.

ALG 3 B - They have their next test on Thur, 3/13. Midterm will be later on in March. They are still deep into trig and will be for the remainder of this month.

CALCULUS - We are doing the remainder of what we need to in relation to derivatives. They will have two quizzes next week, one in class on Tues, 3/18 and one take home. Here's what is happening....

ALG 3Y They have a test tomorrow (Wed) on a somewhat difficult chapter but they have done fairly decently so far. After that, they will move on to conic sections and then, the midterm exam.

ALG 3B There is a quiz scheduled for Thur, 3/6, which covers the coordinates of the Unit Circle. We are working on the Law of Sines and Cosines and then, will get into more formula-driven identities and properties. Test will be the middle of next week.

CACLULUS They have been finding it a bit of a challenge and realize that it is not like any other math class that they have had before. We are getting into the last parts of the derivative side and then, will get into integrals for the duration. Midterm will be towards the end of the month.

ALG 3 Y Took a test last Fri (2/15)....Next quiz will be on Fri, 2/22. Starting a new chapter on functions, zeros, rational expressions, polynomial division.

CALCULUS - Took derivative test on Fri, 2/15. We are now working on solid material for the overall concept of derivatives.

ALG 3 B Have a test this coming Thur, 2/21. First test on preliminary concepts of trig. Will be going through many different topics within the world of trig between now and roughly Spring Break. Extra Help always available with me before school (most any morning as of 7:45 am)

Been so swamped with other things, that have forgotten to post here....My fault but here is the latest for my classes-

ALG 3 Y They are working on graphing functions, domain/range, and other function compostition. Next test won't be until Thur or so of next week (2/14).

ALG 3 B - We have just started TRIG...the topic that will take us through the next two months roughly. The kids need to stay on top of it and come in for extra help (mornings) if needed.

CALCULUS - We have just started our work into the concept of derivatives. Their first test will be next Thur (2/14).

STATS 1st period on Thur, 12/20

ALG 3 6th and 7th periods on 12/21

Classes for Meeden -

STATS - They have a quiz on Mon, 12/10.....their last test on Thur, 12/13, and their final exam is on Thur, 12/20.

INF ALG II - They have a test today on logarithms.....a quiz on Tues, 12/11 on matrices, and a matrix test on Thur, 12/13. Their final exam is on Wed, 12/19.

ALG 3 - They have their last regular test (conics) on Tues, 12/11 and then, we look at matrices for the reminaing days. Their final exam is on Fri morning, 12/21.

Update on my classes (Reminder that we only have FOUR weeks left....)

STATS - We will be having our next test on Thur, Nov. 29th. They are a great class and I have truly enjoyed teaching them.

INF ALG II - Next test is scheduled for Thur, Nov. 29th.....They need to keep up with the work remaining for this class and SEVERAL still need to make up tests/quizzes. They only have until Dec 7th to get any make up tests/quizzes done.

ALG 3 - Right now, we're looking to next Wed, Nov. 28th as the next test for them. They need to keep up with the studies for this (rational functions, asymptotes, etc.)

INF ALG II Wrapping up Chap 6 (tough chapter). Test on Tues, Oct 16th and midterm exam for them next week (most likely Thur, Oct 25th).

Here's the latest for my classes-

STATS They're a great class and I enjoy teaching them!!! They have a test on probability next Tues, Oct 9th. Then, we move on to Confidence Intervals.

INF ALG II Currently working on the famous chapter 6 (hard chapter...) and will have a quiz next Wed, Oct 10th.

ALG 3 They have their next test on Tues, Oct 9th. Then we'll be working on more function combinations.

STATS - We are conducting our survey questions in several different classes here at Lassiter. Students are getting quite a different amount of respsonses.

INF ALG II - They have a test on Chapter 5 on Tues, Oct. 2nd. Hardest chapter (usually) is the next one (Chap 6), so please make sure that students are here every day. A few students are starting to have attendance issues.

ALG III - Going through translations, refelctions, and transformations of functions. They NEED to make sure and bring their calculators every day. Quiz on Thur, 10/4 and test on this next Tues, 10/9.

Now that I have more time and this blog is fully up and running....time to tell you what all is happening:

STATS - Test on Thur, 9/20 - After this, more into Probability and taking samples of students. They will be doing sampling of several classes and taking the results.

INF ALG 2 - Have a cumulative test on Thur, 9/20. Will be working on Chapter 5 and they need to be staying up with the new material that we are now going into. We are all done with review material and are into "new stuff". Several students still need to make up tests and/or quizzes. They need to make an appt with me and get this done. Thanks!!

ALG 3 - We have started work on a new chapter, Chap 2. Will be a quiz on Mon, 9/24 over slope equations and beginning functions.

Greetings and welcome to the Meeden Zone. With my blog, I'll have posts for all of my classes (Statistics, Inf Alg 2, and of course, Algebra 3). They all rock......More coming soon but wanted to go ahead and get the word out now!!!
